The airport will reportedly use the money to purchase new baggage x-ray machines that will provide a three-dimensional view of bag contents. This view will save time as screeners will no longer need to open each package.

The U.S. government commited more than $3 billion dollars for homeland security enhancement in the federal stimulus legislation.

This new baggage system comes just as the San Francisco Chronicle reports that domestic and international flight numbers started climbing in April.
