The Richmond and Sunset districts are the largest neighborhoods in San Francisco. They sit side by side and mirror each other through Golden Gate Park, butting up against the city’s beachfront. Hidden within a vast grid of residential space are areas where one can only trek to or be aware of if driven to. Or if a Muni line transects it. Because of their size, the neighborhoods have mirroring qualities: Remote patches of nature, seemingly busy areas only tourists and residents can appreciate. But they are hardly inaccessible. Here are images of the less obvious within massive neighborhoods that contain a lot of open space. To view captions, click the “full screen” viewing function on the bottom right-hand corner.
