Bay Area transportation gets stimulated

Federal stimulus funds are riding the rails into San Francisco.

The following Bay Area transportation departments are receiving part of $85.9 million in federal stimulus funds:

These funds come at a time when these agencies are planning fee increases and route cuts. The federal money will be used to repair fleets and infrastructure. The transportation stimulus funds are being earmarked by the  U.S. Department of Transportation.

In May, the seven of the 11 Board of Supervisors co-sponsored a measure to reject the mayor’s Muni budget, which included fare raises and service cuts to help balance its budget. The sponsors felt the cuts had greater impact upon public transportation patrons than it did on drivers. The measure failed.
