Muni chief ‘s bid for D.C. job runs into a delay

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced on Wednesday it was delaying its decision to name the agency’s next executive director, with San Francisco’s MTA executive director and CEO, Nathaniel P. Ford, Sr., considered a frontrunner for the position.

The MWAA’s board of directors said it will take considerably longer to choose its next chief, leaving Muni officials here wondering if, and when, they will need to start shopping for a replacement.

“The board has decided to postpone a decision on the executive search at this time,” said the Washington agency. ”We have new members of the board and would like them to participate in the process.”

The prospect of losing Ford comes at a critical time for Muni, which faces allegations of unsafe practices on its light-rail system and a projected $1.6 billion deficit in the next 20 years.
