On this edition of “Civic,” two producers for the audio series “Uncuffed” share how they became journalists. Greg Eskridge, at San Quentin State Prison, and Steve Drown, at California State Prison, Solano, discuss what it’s like to make radio while incarcerated, and how the series offers an opportunity for people in prison to express themselves.

“People think that we’re in here doing a lot of negative things or just wasting time. But in all actuality, there are a lot of guys here being productive. And I always wanted to be able to tell that story of the men who I’ve encountered inside of this place.” — Greg Eskridge
