S.F. needs to improve transit service outside downtown: mayoral candidate John Avalos on Muni

San Francisco Supervisor John Avalos, who is seeking the mayor’s job, says Muni has an infrastructure problem within the transit system.

Avalos has previously told the San Francisco Public Press that Muni is too centered in the downtown area. He wants all residents in the city to have better access to Muni and wants to stop the practice of switchbacks, where Muni buses or trains change direction during mid-route.

He said in order for the city to be transit first, Muni has to provide more options and choices for drivers to get out of their cars and into Muni. Avalos also received an endorsement from the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.

Fun fact: Avalos and his wife took the 49-Van Ness to their wedding ceremony and back to their hotel.
