There were no slackers at the third annual Sunday Streets kick-off on Embarcadero. Whether it was biking, Rollerblading, scootering or walking, people — not vehicles — were mobile. The northbound lane of the Embarcadero, where bumper-to-bumper traffic on a Sunday is the norm, was converted to a bidpedal and pedalers’ mecca.  They were rewarded with clear skies and free chocolates from TCHO, a local chocolate manufacturer.

Local organizations, such as the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, weaned children from their training wheels while makeshift cyclists on double-decker bicycles and a commandeered hex-a-powered vehicle (a circular bicycle powered by six people) cruised freely down the street.

The next Sunday Streets will be on April 11 on the Great Highway.

Upcoming Sunday Streets:

April 18 — Bayview

May 23 — Mission

July 11 — Mission

August 22 — Great Highway, Golden Gate Park
