News Notes: Mission park service hours cut

The $7.5 million restoration of the Mission Playground at 19th and Linda streets comes just as city budget cuts limit the park’s operating hours.

The recreation area has dropped from 3.5 full-time staff to one summer employee. The city had also employed 31 actvities directors who were viewed by the local community as a buffer between local children and gangs said to operate in the park. But layoffs that started in February have whittled that number down to eight activities directors.
SF Weekly listed the Mission Playground as the best urban sports mecca.
